well everyhome has its own cesspools, actually a guy on a ride-on mower just made his collapse yesterday and was killed according to the Newsday paper.(checkout Long Island news, New York news, Entertainment and Sports) And we have sewers too, just along major roadways are the grates along the curbs, but every street has got manhole covers.

Where does every home have them? I'm in GC and the entire village has sewers.
I am on the South Shore of Long Island, Patchogue, and we have cesspools. I think that most of the Suffolk South shore is cesspools. It probably varies by area.
We are in Ridge(suffolk) & we have cesspools. "city water" just became available here about 5 years ago.
I lived in Oakdale for several years before moving here, we had private sewers & our own treatment plant in a townhouse community. I think lots of single family homes in Oakdale have cesspools. I grew up in Port jeff station, we had sewers.
