Hello,
I am thinking of moving to California I am a disabled Veteran and recieve 3400 dollars a month. Would that be enough to live decently in Los Angelos or orange county for that matter? I might be able to find work also and make around 4400 a month working part time. Would I feel poor living there with this income?

First of, its LOS ANGELES, not Los Angelos.

My understanding is 3400 a month as a military disability is non taxable.

If that is the case, thats the equivalent of a single person making around $65-70K a year.

And at that amount of money you make more than an average person and it largely depends on what your expectations out of life are.

Your biggest expense will be rent, followed by car/gas/insurance and then utilities/cable.

To live in a 1 bedroom apartment, expect a rent in a decent area to run $1100 a month.

I sent you a link with lesser cost apartments in Huntington Beach, which is a pretty nice area IMO. I'd be pretty happy with your disability income living in an area like that, near to the beach and stuff.

so you are saying you get 41000 a year disability and can earn another 4400 hundred a month part time, which is over 50,000 a year. Combined that is about $100,000. Of course you can live on that. What type of part time work will pay you over $50,000 a year?

Nita no I would make tops aound 50 some thosand a year working part time also. I don't really have high expectations I enjoy dining out from time to time ,gym membership, and buying nice clothes from time to time. Oh I do like to check out the scene and go out and hit the bars and clubs. Anyway I would hate not having things I have now because of unaffordability and cost of living.

Wow lucky you. If I was in your shoes I would go live overseas ( Costa Rica or Panama) on that salary you'd live like a king. Lots of American Expats living well on less.

Patriotic? What does that have to do with anything?

That is so last century. Our planet is too small for that mindset.

You would live fine on the funds you get each month. Of-course that doesn't mean living on the beach or even near it but you can get a nice apartment or small house in many decent neighborhoods. If you like the night life than living near Hollywood is also possible. In-fact you can chose a variety of neighborhoods and live comfortably.
