Hi,
I am graduating from college in May (in Virginia) and will be moving to the Los Angeles area to assume a teaching position. That being said, I am looking for an apartment that is dog friendly that is affordable on a LAUSD teaching salary. I think, due to my lifestyle preferences, I want to live in the South Bay area. I have looked at Hermosa and Redondo Beach as well as Torrance. I wondered if anyone can tell me what they think about these areas. I have found one apartment complex- Copa Pacific in Torrance (90505) and wondered if anyone in the area knew of these apartments.
Obviously, I plan on looking in person before I move, but I would like to get an idea of where to start looking when I come out for my pre-move visits. Ideally, I don't want to spend over 1300 for my rent (plus utilities), but I think I might be able to go up to 1400 for a 1 bedroom...also, I will consider a studio, since I'm sure they are cheaper. My only requirement- that it be a nice/safe area and they allow dogs, my dog is a 60lb shepherd mix.
Thanks for any and all help!!!

Hi,
I realize that most apt complexes have weight limits- its the same here. I was hoping for some help locating the complexes that do not have them or are willing to work around them. A 60 lb shepherd mix is actually considered to be a medium sized dog (especially because she ranges in weight between 55 and 60). A normal shepherd is usually between 95-120 lbs. She is actually about the size of a dalmatian. I also have called places and realize that I will need to have references that sight that my dog is not aggressive or destructive. Thanks!

Go onto craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums. You can check a box that says dog friendly. Once you find some you like, post them here and we'll tell you if they are good areas. One good idea is Belmont Shore, in Long Beach-nice, safe, upscale, but not expensive. In Torrance, if you go too far east, the area is quite iffy, so stay close to the ocean (not saying 90505 is bad because I don't know).

Hermosa is real nice, redondo is real nice, torrance is also good, but you will pay for it in rent, parking, high density living and traffic jams. tons of good bars on Pier Ave in Hermosa Beach, decent variety for food and eating out, decent young crowd and nice beaches, but, one word of warning, depending on where you work, you will spend your life in the car on a freeway. bring your patience too, cos people around here aren't exactly the want-to-know-you types and everyone has an attitude.. Im moving out of LA asap, been here 3 years and hated it for 3 years. very disappointed, LA is actually far more obnoxious than it looks on cheesy cliche B grade cop movies.

Jeeez folks, this thread is 2-1/2 years old. I'm thinking she's probably found a place by now.
