No. But the Coachella Valley, where you live, is right on top of the San Andreas, I'm afraid. You live in a very high risk area that includes the Imperial Valley, metro San Bernardino, north Los Angeles county right up into Central California. San Jose and the San Francisco peninsula are directly over the fault also and are considered extremely high risk. But as SOON2BNSURPRISE points out, there are so many adjacent fault lines parallel to the San Andreas that anywhere in Californian is "earthquake country".

I understand the SA fault runs through the Cajon Pass. That's pretty far from LA.

My brother lives almost right on top of the San Andreas Fault, out in Leona Valley. The fault zone ends just north of his house. When I asked him if he ever thinks about it, he pointed out that the San Fernando Valley, where I live, features thrust faults that can do a lot more damage. At least the San Andreas is a strike slip fault, and it moves horizontally more than vertically.

true, but any large quake will still do severe damage especially if it's a "wall to wall" quake along a 370 mile stretch from north to south.

While I find no fault with your statement, I must say that I'm just waiting to be swallowed up by the earth! Once inside, I'm gonna build the most hella rad fort you ever seen!
