I was just wondering if any of the CA posters here on C-D live on the San Andreas Fault or within 5-10 miles of it? and does it scare you to know this? Explain please. I am really interested in the earthquake faults here in Southern California.

I'm not sure how far I am from the San Andreas but according to the map it appears the fault line is due north of Pasadena by maybe 40 miles. Looks like it cuts across the Mojave desert of Los Angeles county on the other side of the San Gabriel mountains and then over the Tehachapi mountains into the far western San Joaquin valley before entering the coastal mountains of San Luis Obispo and Monterey counties. San Bernardino looks to be the largest city that the San Andreas is directly underneath. I think Fontucky lives very close to the fault line Not that it's funny or anything!

If I lived on it, yes I'd be terrified!

I'm ~10 miles SW of the fault. I don't worry about it, mainly because I'm in a single story stick built structure and the land underneath is worth more that what sits on it.

Potential for structural damage has more to do with geological conditions in one's area than proximity to a fault. The more solid the ground one's on, regionally speaking, the better.

The fault has been there FOREVER. I have friends who live nearby it but I wouldn't worry about it. Makes a good tourist attraction but that's about it.

I lived all along the fault line SA to San Bernidino, been i n some big shakers and more are on the way . there are a lot of things a person could choose to fear but Quakes are not not one of them I choose to worrry about. Even the cost line turning into an island chain wouldn't be a big deal .
Not worried about the future, I have things right with God . He has preserved me through out my life over and over, i've lived far longer than I had ever dreamed . Bring it on.

I meant right on top of it like neighborhoods in Highland and San Bernardino are.
