Hi. I know that this has been asked before but I haven't found anything recent. Can't decide where to live. I'm a 34-yrs. old professional female looking for a fun night life in a laid back community. Manhattan Beach or Santa Monica? Thanks.

They're on opposite sides of the 10/405 interchange - that's a big deal.

Where is your job?

Big deal? No .. thats a HUGE deal.

I think you'd have more fun in SM .... Manhattan Beach is relatively small, and there is a ton of nightlife in SM.

I second Charles. I think job commute times should figure into your quality of life calculus.

Santa Monica is more of an urban beach city, whereas Manhattan Beach is more of an upscale beach village. Santa Monica has better access to the Westside, and Manhattan Beach has better access to the South Bay.

Do you want "I'm hip and can't wait to be rich" or do you want "I'm rich and can't wait to be hip?" That's the difference between the social scenes in Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach.

How long is the commute from Santa Monica to Downtown (typically). Is the traffic bad on the 10??

Typically 40-45 minutes, but can be as much as an hour if there is a bad traffic issue.

Traffic is bad on the 10. Traffic is bad everywhere.

Its not a terrible commute though.

It's about one of the worst commutes you can get during peak times, either way. I'd consider taking side streets between 6pm - 8pm.

I'm thinking of taking a job downtown. where should I look to live? I want something safe, with easy access to grocery stores, restaurants, chill nightlife. Beaches are not a must. I'm not used to commuting and would like to avoid stop and go traffic as much as possible. any suggestions?
