I've lived in the Los Angeles area since Oct. 2009. From June 2010-Present, I've experienced an extreme amount of phlegm and mucus, particularly in the morning. Could this be a reaction to LA smog? Anyone else have a similar experience?

Never heard of this before, but I guess it could be.
Do you smoke?
Bob.

I've never been a smoker. I drink lots of water and eat very healthy. I took Clariton D for a week, with no improvement. I'm not so familiar with walking pneumonia.

Go to the doctor. If it was the smog, then many many more people would have this problem.

OP, I agree with SoCalBrad. Go to the doctor. I have this awful bronchial virus thing (think bronchitis except lasting 3 months and resistant to antibiotics) that I get every winter when I live on the east coast. I never, ever have gotten it in the four years I've lived here. I think if smog were an issue, I'd get this nasty stuff a couple of times a year.

If you don't have an established doc here, there are some excellent walk-in/urgent care places. If you're in the Valley, there's one on Buena Vista (I believe) in Burbank that I can rec.

Feel better.

That stands to reason, seeing as how antibiotics have absolutely no effect on viral infections. They're only effective against bacterial junk.

You could be having a reaction to the smog and pollution, along with other allergens. I was just in LA for the past month and had horrible sinus issues everyday. I had a lot of sinus pain and congestion, as well as drainage every morning. My husband experienced the same thing. We are now in Orlando, FL and feel a lot better. I still have allergies (I have them everywhere I go) but it is nothing like what I experienced in LA last month. When I read your post I asked my husband if he feels better now that he is out of LA and he said yes. I really do love LA but I have a hard time living with that dirty air. Having fresh, clean air to breathe shouldn't be an issue as far as I am concerned.
