Moving to San Fernando Valley and have a few questions

The NoHo arts district is also worth noting. Someone that knows the area a little better could give you some pointers as to the better areas for apts.

North Hollywood Arts District is an up and coming area. The buildings are mostly new and have a lot of new amenities. Some of them have washer/dryer in unit. They are also resort style in a highrise form, which means a lot include gyms and pools. You also have a very walkable area with lots of restaurants and a few bars. There is also a Red Line subway stop in North Hollywood making for easy access to Hollywood and Downtown. Plus, you are north of the major traffic if you are working in the West Valley.

Now the drawbacks: The area is very self contained. There are some crime problems. Mostly, the buildings are very expensive. I know some of the rents for one bedrooms range in the $1700-$1800 range, some less however. I think that is a lot of money to pay for NoHo. That amount of money can get you a nice one bedroom on the beach or at Hollywood/Vine. I also know some of the buildings are way under capacity because of this, but the owners aren't dropping rents yet. Hopefully they do soon.

I have lived in Studio City for the past 21 yrs and agree, it is the most walkable area of the SFV and most exciting for young singles. Several newer pubs and cafes have opened on Ventura Blvd. and celebrity sightings occur daily in the area.

As for great deals on apartments, near Ventura blvd and Vineland, there is a street called Bluffside Dr., which is young and hip and next to a convenient plaza with Starbucks, Ralphs, and Chinese food, smoothies, nail shop, dry cleaners, etc. The entire street is filled with various decent apartments and condos for lease.
Also, at the same location facing Vineland is the huge Archstone apt complex.

More deals are up Tujunga Ave. to Moorpark St. and all along Moorpark which goes through Sherman Oaks, where you will find more independent apt bldgs and even cheaper condos for lease, many of which have own laundry.

On Radford near CBS there are several expensive condo type rentals and the smaller units at 4041. This immediate area gets to enjoy the Sunday Farmer's market close-up, and the parking fills up the neighborhood. No need to pay these high rent prices, when you have the other two areas I mentioned.
