Hello!
My husband and I lived in LA 5 years ago (w/ two young children) on his college campus/campus co-op housing (downtown) and in a single family home in Montebello. Prior to getting married, I spent a few summers in Santa Monica. We LOVED the LA area. We still have many close friends there and really enjoyed all the amenties and culture in the city.

We have 2 more kids now though... that's 4 total...and I'm a stay at home mom. My husband is about to apply for medical fellowship programs and we need to know if UCLA and USC are options. Day-to-day expenses don't worry me so much as housing. I feel like once we nail that portion down, we can get a budget together for the rest. I need some suggestions of neighborhoods/communties/areas where we should look for housing. We'd need to be w/in 35-40 minutes of UCLA or USC hospitals for my husband's job requirements (but commuting would likely be off-hours for that 30 minute requirement-- like evenings after 8PM or very early at 5AM)

We both completely understand we won't find a 5BR/3,000 sq house (like here in Indiana) in the LA area. We'd be happy with a 3+ bedroom home in a family-friendly neighborhood. Where do we look? Schools aren't an issue because we homeschool. Housing Budget - $625K would be our max. Please be honest. Should we cross LA off the list?
