I quite my gym membership and just started working at the beach in Santa Monica. What a difference it is to be on the sand and start your day with a workout at the beach.

I'm from back east originally. Amazing change. I love LA!

Try Barry's Bootcamp. Great workout and you might see some celebs in your class too. There is one in West Hollywood and in Sherman Oaks. It has a night club vibe and its dark with pop music blasting; a night club with treadmills. A very "Hollywood" work out that will kick your ass. I'ts HIIT (high intensity interval training).

I love bootcamp! I don't go to Barry's (but I have friends that do and like it), but I HIGHLY recommend finding one near you... wherever you are (mine's in Burbank). It's cheaper than personal training, but you're still somewhat accountable for being there. If you find the right person/music, it's really really awesome. Can't recommend it enough.

I hate working out more than pretty much anyone in the world... but I've managed to stick with exercising regularly for quite some time now. And I even kind of look forward to it! Which is pretty weird for me.

True. I don't like outdoors bootcamps or the REAL military style workout. I need mirrors to look at myself, Britney Spears blasting and I like to work out in the dark. That's why I prefer Barry's over an outdoors bootcamp. I prefer working out indoors than outdoors.

Yikes. No to mirrors! (I do NOT need to see my sweating purple face) NO to Britney Spears (my instructor plays The Ramones). I agree that I'd prefer to work out indoors, though. Ours is outside on a covered back porch, and it's great but I wonder what's going to happen in the summer when it's 90 degrees!
I'm very much an indoor person, so my bootcamp being outside but under cover is sort of nice because I'm getting fresh air. And she has us run around the block sometimes, which is horrifying... but good too (I guess).

I get why Barry's is popular, but for me, I like my stripped-down bootcamp where I don't feel like I have to put makeup on to work out. Plus, it has daycare, which is great for those of us with kids. And my instructor is hilarious. I laugh almost non-stop through the workout.
