I'd like to move to a beach town but my son does not drive. Would he be able to get around Marina Del Rey? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

How old is he? Does he work? Where?

If he doesn't mind bussing it, i'd take Santa Monica in a heartbeat. I have friends who live & work closeby and they only use their cars on the weekends nowadays preferring bikes, buses & old-fashioned walking for commuting & running errands.

Default thanks!

He's 21 and doesn't mind walking. He'll be looking for a job soon. Is it safe to walk in Santa Monica at night?

very safe. But part-time unskilled jobs are hard to come by right now. The area is teeming with aspiring actors/models/college kids who more than fill the limited number of open positions. He probably will need a car if he has to commute more than a few miles.

Huntington Beach, Seal Beach, Belmont Shores, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Marina Del Rey, El Segundo, Santa Monica are all walkable beach towns and all very safe. Theres probably others I'm not even thinking about.

the marina is fairly walkable unless you live on the peninsula way south of washington. not may options for buses there either. regardless, with a bicycle much of coastal LA is no more than 30 minutes away.
