As the title suggests. I am looking to buy a home in the sherman oaks area but fear that my commute time will be too much of a burden. I am going to torrance (crenshaw exit) off the 405.

Would studio city be better and go through downtown to the 110 or would Encino/Sherman oaks be better and take the 405 straight?

Anyone do this same commute?

Thanks in advance
-Tom

They are both pretty ruthless... Definitely do-able, but it wouldn't be fun. Is there a reason why you want to live in the Valley? You might be able to find something very similar in the South Bay.

Thanks for your input.

Yea the valley is pretty much fixed due to family proximity. What times do you think.

I think its about an hour in the morning and 1.5 hours in the evening. this is with leaving at 7:30 AM and leaving work at 5:30 PM

Those times seem about reasonable, especially considering you are leaving a little on the earlier side... I don't know much about the 405 traffic after the 105 freeway, but it is terrible up to that point.

I would think the 405 route starting at Encino would be quicker than the 101-110 from Studio City, but not totally sure about that.

it takes my wife close to an hour to get to santa monica in the mornings from encino. i've done the drive with her, traffic eases up once you get past the getty center exit usually. however, torrance is considerably further south, so even without traffic for that last stretch on the 405, you'd be lucky to be there in under an hour from anywhere near the 405/101 interchange. your evening commute would be an absolute nightmare. the 405 north will be backed up from the LAX area until around mulholland. that's a long way to drive at less than 20mph.

yea that's what I was thinking. Are you guys close to the 405 or 101 or does it take you 10-15 min to get on the freeway? I am dreading the evening commute the most since it is backed up starting from the 90 all the way to the 101.

i work at the ventura/sepulveda intersection and it takes me about 15 minutes to get to work. we live near the encino trader joe's if that helps. if i have to head down to the westside for any reason during rush hour i can be on the 405 south of the 101 in about the same amount of time.
