what 300k gets you in LA or better yet SoCal is a joke , I'd rather invest my 300k, on a large house with land and more comfortable way of life and visit LA/socal for vacations.
Thank you for telling where I need or don't need to be; it's as simple as that.

Thank you also for having an objective measure of QOL.

Also, it can be considered debatable whether buying a house is a profitable "investment". It can be, but it's not automatically so. There is no guarantee that real estate will forever go up.

I agree and given the numbers, we are likely to see a slight fall in prices and then a very long period of stagnant home prices. In that sense you're right, it's not a great investment.

People who say "you could get more for your money out in X" clearly don't understand property values. I could get an enormous house on big plot of land for $300,000 in my hometown in Ohio, but I would be in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do. That $300,000 won't get me much in Los Angeles but I would be in a world class city with access to an amazing lifestyle and amenities.

Isn't that the truth. 1,100 square foot box in Burbank is worth close to six hundred grand.

There really is alot of affordable housing all over LA. Some of the people who are complaining about lack of affordable housing are the same people who think you should have the latest iPhone, drive a Lexus, and be able to live in an affluent neighborhood with little to no education or marketable skills.

Pasadena shows at least 20 sales in the last twelve months for less than $200k...

Yeah, if you want to live on the cliffs of Malibu and you're not in the 1%, then I guess you might feel that there's no affordable housing. But really, it's time to get real and go live where you can afford.

there is affordable housing but you will get a very run down house in probably a not very good area and a horrible school system. if you are single and go out a lot its probably no biggie

but if you have a family you can do much better outside the city and then come in to the city when you want to enjoy it
