Just looking in the valley there are quite a few small homes for 200,000-300,000 in Burbank and Glendale. Only 700-900 sq ft. but yes it is possible to find affordable housing in the valley.

Renting in the valley is quite cheap too. If you're willing to live in an older (not ghetto) area you will be literally a bike ride away from great neighborhoods like valley village, Sherman oaks, studio city, universal city, etc. Especially if you're south of Oxnard and near Laurel or Cold Water Canyon. Best deals in town imo

The problem isn't for young single, males mostly, making the "sacrifices" for filthy livin' in a shoe-box 600 SqFt. domicile in a "sketchy" neiborhood, but the challenge for a family who are making sacrifices, just not the "sacrifices" you think they ought to make so that their families aren't victims of stray bullets or other crime and can go to a better school and live in square footage that doesn't feel like a cage of trapped rats.

I'm so glad someone ought there has figured it out for everyone else as to what sacrifices the rest of us should make. I haven't heard such wisdom since President Ronald Reagan pronounced during the economic down times he inherited, that by his cursory glance want ads in the paper, that there sure seemed to be "plenty of jobs" out there. Yes, Mr. President, but what kind of job? Jobs that can support a family in modest means?

I await with great anticipation the OP's latest encyclical on what sacrifices we should all make.

I agree. Most of us with families could not possibly live in a little box that is priced at a steep price of 250K to 400K in a bad neighborhood.

I was assuming the OP is a single or newlywed young male, not a family man. For families it's tough.

So yeah the whole no excuses thing is right wing propaganda.

let's face, not everybody in LA can afford to live in a multi-bedroom house with a pool in a mostly white neighborhood

300k for a 700-900sq ft ? That's a good deal?

300 k would take off literally 30 years to save,
sounds a little steep for a crappy box if you ask me

Solution: Don't breed. Less people to support.
