[quote=IncogNegro;1668814]I've got this pet turtle that I don't want anymore. It's a red-eared slider. It's just too much of a hassle cleaning up after the ****ing thing.

So I've decided to set it free. I already scouted a really cool pond down at the local golf course. I went down and had a good look and I could see some minnows swimming around in there. So it's got a functioning eco system.

Do you think the turtle will survive, or will the pesticides kill it?[/QUOT

You shouldn't have gotten it in the first place. You don't take on a pet and decide you don't want it any more and kick it to the curb. Find a home for it.

PLEASE don't release it into a pond...

Everyone here that suggested schools or Craigslist are right on!

I work at an elementary school and our teachers love classroom pets. One of our teachers has some small turtles and the kids love them. Call the school closest to your home and ask them! If you cant find a teacher that wants it, then try Craigslist.

But whatever you do, please dont release it into the pond!

If you purchased it at a pet store, most places will allow you to surrender it back there. Otherwise you still can call a local store and see if they will accept it.

PLEASE don't release it into the wild!

There are some parks with eco lakes and you can check it out. Pet adoption sounds good and the SPCA usually goes out of their way to find a good home. Did you hear about the alligator that was released in a huge park and ended up causing havoc and millions of dollars to catch? They had to fly out some guy from Florida and another one from Australia to catch him. The alligator was smart and eluded capture for the longest time before finally getting caught. He's in some reserve in Florida. The turtle would have been his lunch!
