My family and I are looking to move.. We currently live in Burbank but we want to be closer to downtown LA and the beach, namely Santa Monica. My boyfriend works in Burbank but is willing to commute up to an hour. We found a house that we LOVE in West Hollywood, but we're not sure the neighborhood is right for us. We're both very young, he's 26 and I'm 22 but we also have a 3 year old daughter. Our main concern is that the neighborhood is safe and close to good schools. We plan on sending her to private school so LAUSD schools aren't an issue. We feel a little out of place in Burbank and are looking for a younger neighborhood that will also be good for our daughter. Our max budget for a house is 2 million.

Do think West Hollywood is a good fit for us? Anywhere else a young family should be looking?

I would say West Hollywood isn't a bad idea, almost right in between Santa Monica and Burbank. Beverly Hills would get you a little closer to SM and there are some homes there in your price range.

As for WeHo, my sister has lived there for over 12 years (she's single and in her mid-30s). She's never felt unsafe and she tends to be out and about in her neighborhood all of the time.

Other options could be Culver City and Santa Monica itself, but the commute starts getting longer the further west/southwest you go.

I get the feeling this is one of those "one post poster" only threads.

Why do you feel out of place in Burbank? I've never heard anyone say that about Burbank, especially someone young like you guys. And, I've NEVER heard anyone say they want to move closer to Downtown. Are you SURE in you live in LA?

Also, why do you wonder if West Hollywood is "right" for you?

Keep in mind that a couple hours/day in a car is not a big deal to an adult, but for the little one, it's time not spent with Daddy. Having more time together may be worth more than that "better" neighborhood.

I'm sure you know where the "good schools" are so why not let that be your guide?
