hello everyone! thank you for you time.
I'm moving to hollywood this summer. i found this apartment complex, which seems pretty nice. it's called hollywood off-vine, and it's located at 6212 la mirada avenue.
is it a safe area? or it's better if I look elsewhere?
I'm wondering that because it's really close to santa monica blvd, which is so full of...uhm...characters.

what do you think?

My brother lives a few blocks south of that area off Melrose. The area is fine and perfectly safe.

You're in the middle of a lot of characters. I work a few blocks from there. The area is totally safe during the day. I wouldn't wander around at night too much. Violent characters can lurk around the Lexington and Vine/Gower area. So to answer your question, it's okay to live there, but personally I wouldn't feel comfortable, it's got a lot of property crime and some violent crime.

Interesting, I don't feel uncomfortable walking around at night but the sight of brown people after dark doesn't scare me. From a safety standpoint the area feels very similar to, say, Culver City, Palms or southern Venice IMO.

^Culver City? Maybe the western part. Downtown is gentrified.

Palms is too quiet to compare, and it is more suburban and nicer.

South venice, yes, maybe, the old infamous Oakwood area where gangs dominated in the 90s.

I didn't say the area is terrible, it's just not the best. Still better than most of the neighborhoods to the east.

Downtown Culver City isn't where most of the housing is located near though so it's sort of irrelevant when you're talking about apartments. Palms suburban and nicer than Hollywood? That's news to me. That's where my brother lived for like 8 years before moving to Hollywood. You might not have outright said the OP's area is terrible but it certainly reads as a recommendation not to move there.

You might want to read these Yelp reviews about Hollywood Off-Vine before signing a lease:

Looks like a City-Data member moved in there. The OP might try PM'ing that member. $625 for a studio seems awfully cheap for that area.

thank you so much for all your answers! so hopefully I'll be fine..we'll see! I'm still a little worried about cockroaches...I mean..ew.
@dunbar42 yes, it's really cheap because it's a shared studio. they allow you so save A LOT of money, but of course you have to give up your privacy! if you decide to rent a single, you will have to pay full rent, which is around 1100$. I sent him a PM by the way! thank you so much!!
