In that case it is a misnomer.

Does San Diego consider Los Angeles to be Northland?

SD considers any part outside of SD County = "L.A."

It's just a term we use here to refer to our own region...

Not a insult but you do realize that the rest of the nation laughs at LA when ever it rains right? You hear national weather forecasters say "LA had a inch of rain today resulting in many car crashes"! You should come to Florida where we get 50-60 inches of not rain but torrential downpours in the summer where you can't even see past your windshield!
