you guys make it seem hopeless..can't there be a studio in the rough parts of town around that price? how are people who are unemployed survive and live then?

Well this is LA. This is not some small town. You're talking about the 2nd biggest city in America here. LA is an expensive place to live.

I was living in Silver Lake in '10 for $550 a month with roommates in a small Guest House. Go that route.

Someone needs to repost that thread about the guy who flewed into LA, checked into some super cheap rental room, quickly crapped in his pants and left the next day

it's not hopeless, it's called roommates

how does the low income family of 5 survive with dad making $10 an hour as a cook ? they cram into a cramped one bedroom in the ghetto

or someone like you, a young white guy with limited income, they share a studio or one bedroom, sometimes as many as 3 to one bedroom, i've seen it plenty. you make do.
