Long Beach! East of Redondo is doable for your budget and proximity to the port areas. San Pedro isn't too bad though most will argue against the schools because it's LA Unified and blah blah blah big city schools apparently suck.

Cerritos is pricy, so is Lakewood. You might get a 2 bedroom in that budget. Bellflower has some decent areas. Cypress may have some townhouses or small houses in that budget and it's a great area not too far from the port but farther away from the pollution and bad air.

Same thing with Lakewood. 4bd/2ba 1500 sq ft clean SFR for $2500/mo. And I actually think that's a bit too expensive.

4bd 2ba for rent in quiet Lakewood neighborhood

Valencia is not exactly "cheap" after you factor in HOA fees and Mello Roos. Even apartments are expensive and hard to come by since the foreclosure crisis hit. I would try Eagle Rock near Glendale, or Altadena.

You have lots of options, here is one in Torrance if you go up $100, 1 mile from twice a week farmers market. You can take PCH or the Vincent Thomas Bridge
Redondo might cost $100 more if you are willing to do a townhome/condo, you have options.

Redondo Beach 3 Bedroom Townhome One Level

I don't think you should be looking north of Downtown or the 10, it would just be unnecessarily far.

Thanks everyone... I was able to do some research and think I have some better ideas (thanks to you all) on ideal places to live. We're still waiting to hear if the call will be made for him to relo to LB so, no sudden moves needed (YET)

Thanks again, everyone - this is an awesome resource!

The 2010 United States Census[82] reported that Burbank had a population of 103,340. The population density was 5,946.3 people per square mile (2,295.9/km2).
