Hello everyone,

We would greatly appreciate your help. To anyone that knows North Central Pasadena,.....what is your take on the Glen Avenue stretch, between Howard and Washington? The neighborhood looks great in the daytime. But, lots of what I read make it sound like very dangerous "South Central Los Angeles Gang Land" at night. We are planning on moving there, and would like as much info as possible. We are particularly interested in the crime/safety aspect.

Also, we don't have any idea if this would be a factor in our level of "neighborhood acceptance", but we are Caucasian. We realize that we would be the minorities in that neighborhood. We're fine with being the neighborhood minority (we have gotten along with all races in the past), as long as we aren't going to be derogatorily singled out because we're not the norm.

Thanks!

My advice: RUN don't walk!!

You do not want to live there trust me. The area is not as bad as it was back in the 70s and 80s, but still, why even go there if you may have other options?

you can check out crime statistics by crime type on a map at:
Crime Mapping - Building Safer Communities!

I seriously doubt anyone will actively bother you, especially because of race.
The vast majority of gang members live in that part of town; however, they target each other and rarely mess with random people.

That said, personally, I wouldn't live there. I

I wouldn't recommend it. Lots of bars on windows. While that's not the worst hood in Pasadena, it is close. There are some parts near there that I wouldn't even want to drive through, especially at night, wouldn't want to stop, and definitely would not want to live there.

We live sort of near there. The area looks much worse than it is. I wouldn't walk around that part at night though if that hints at anything. This part of town is very block by block. It wouldn't bother me of the ethnic makeup of the area though. Our neighbors are everything and are nice. I always wave to everyone when I am doing whatever out front and they say hi back. Sometimes they come by and talk. We are a younger couple and mixed asian and white. The street is Hispanic, Korean, white and black. Mostly Hispanic gardeners with horses.

For crime. I think its bad below Woodbury. There have been shootings. One thing is that the Pasadena Police, CHP and Sheriff are all right there. As the above said, its most likely people targeting specific people. There is a big gang presence here. Seems to be the majority of LA though, and they seem to keep it to themselves, if that makes any sense. But there are also break ins, and that's why I say its block to block. You might be able to tell while looking at the houses on the particular block.

I wouldn't let that stuff stop you, but its good to be aware of.

Stay away from north pasadena as a whole I say, if you can afford it. To me, anything north of the 210 fwy in Pasadena is bad, although areas just north of the 210 seem to be gentrifying, albiet slowly, too slow for me to wait it out 20 years while the neighborhood gets better.

Sorry, but this is just false.

Hastings Ranch neighborhood in Pasadena is north of the 210 and is a fantastic neighborhood. Linda Vista and Prospect park are also north of the 210/134 and are beautiful, safe, and expensive neighborhoods.

NW Pasadena, loosely defined as north of the 210 and west of Lake and east of the Rose Bowl (except Prospect Park) is dicey. West of Lake gets better as you go further north up into Altadena. East of Lake gets worse as you get close to the 210 (there have been several shootings as far east as Mar Vista near the 210).

Things get worse as you get closer to Summit Ave, which to me, seems to be the epicenter of badness in Pasadena.

I lived in Pasadena most of my life from 1 to 33 years old, so my opinion is valid.
