Yeah, I've been kind of bi-polar with LA ever since I moved here. But when I depart LA at the end of this month, I'm leaving with a positive image of it.

I moved here from a small town in Florida back in February, and my 8 months here has been nothing but an experience. I landed a full-time job in less than a week of arriving, in a desirable neighborhood and doing the same kind of work I was doing back in Florida. I had no idea how it would turn out moving to LA job-less, but it couldn't have worked out any better. I think I got lucky.

As someone who lives on the West side of LA, it's too bad I won't get to see that Expo line completed. I take the Rapid 720 daily, and can only imagine how awesome things will be once you can take the Expo to Santa Monica.

I've had the opportunity to live in a global, diverse city. Meet new people, live on the other side of the country, and I'm glad I did it. While LA may not have been the ideal city for me, I actually largely enjoyed it out here. Although I may have been a little harsh on it at times. That comes with the day-to-day life.

I might even be back one day. But for now I'm saying goodbye to LA and really exploring it like I did when I first got here.

I grew up in LA, lived there 45 years, moved to Colorado Springs for two years, Alabama for two years, now I'm back (in Orange County). There is no place like Southern California. It's tough for a native to leave and not return - even if cost of living is better elsewhere. I've posted several times in the past that I wouldn't leave here if you doubled my salary and I'm serious. But, I'm a native unlike our original poster.

Sorry, I did not mention it as I didn't want it to distract from the intention of my post. I'm taking off to travel, and moving to New Zealand for starters. I do agree that it is hard for natives to leave. But transplants such as myself aren't as attached to the area.

Wow, that's a big move. I suppose if you're young and unattached and have opportunities for employment - it's an adventure.

How did you get a visa to stay in New Zealand? Or is it only a tourist visa.

I hope that you enjoy the adventure in New Zealand. I am sure you will be back one day and to see that Expo Line done.

I'm wondering though by the time that line is done that more people won't actually want to hang out around Downtown L.A .. The allure of Santa Monica seems to be slipping for the nontourists.

I could see more L.A residents actually want to hang out more by Downtown or non westside areas.

Santa Monica is nice sure...but nowadays it feels like it caters more to tourists or those with plenty of money.

Anyways, it's great you took the leap and moved from your town and came to live somewhere else. That takes quite a bit of courage, and I'm guessing most people don't move very far from their hometowns/birthplace.

So Long and Farewell...and enjoy these last days in the City of Angels.

Awesome! That's exactly my plan once my daughter starts college in 5 years. Australia is my main destination. Let us know how it goes!
