Over the years, I've heard a few complaints from women than tall men in LA are hard to find. Or at least tall single men. Is that so? I'm guessing it is, because most actors seem short and LA has a high percentage of Asians and Latinos, who often are short. By the way, I'm a tall man and I do see tall men out and about, though I don't pay much attention to the percentage nor do I know what's common elsewhere.

Less tall men than the midwest because we aren't really a Germanic/Nordic area.

Surely fewer North Europeans than the Midwest. More Jews and (one of the shorter European nationalities) English. I have no idea what LA percentage is of Italian ancestry. Or of Irish ancestry.

I never noticed, but I guess it must be true considering there are multiple threads on the topic. I am 5'11" and never felt like I was all that tall here.

I can just picture it now .. "I could never move to L.A...the smog, the traffic ...and the short men!"

I'm a 6'4" guy...so I guess everyone looks short to me

You answered your own question. Probably blacks are the tallest ethnic group in LA. Asians and Latinos are usually short. The whites that are in LA tend to be Jewish, or Persian or Armenian if you count them as white. Many are also English who are short for Europeans. Taller groups tend to be Dutch, Germans, Scandinavians. They are not common here while they dominate states like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa.

Yes they are.

They live by or surroundings are white people.

I agree. On the gay side of things, there's not enough taller men to go around. I've noticed it for a while but haven't vocalized it to anyone. I'm only 6'2" and feel psychologically shorter mostly because my older brothers are 6'4" and 6'6". However, once I navigated the gay scene here in L.A. I realized I was a bit taller than most. I'd go on dance floors and be the tallest one quite a few times.

Also, the men who usually approach me are well under 6'0" (lots of 5'6", 5"8"'s and of course it gets awkward when they're more "top-minded" and I'm 6'2" -- I've tried IT and, baby, it's Different) lol. Also I've found a lot of Tall Bottoms (soooo......) I've rarely met tall locals that I've been "into." A lot of shorter dudes in the L.A. scene have a lot of courage and don't really feel the heightism here. I've frequently seen shorter gay guys pull tall guys many times because a "dominant"-dude is a "dominant"-dude.

I used to live in NYC and the gay men there were usually taller but mostly because a lot of the guys were midwest transplants (who were usually German/Nordic/Scots-Irish-decended) . There's even a "Tall Gay Agenda" social club in NYC for men 6'2"+.

The only tall guys I've met that have been around my height dating wise in L.A. were sadly, out-of-towners/foreigners/tourists -- from Germany, Australia, Western Europe, and they hop on the plane again. Sigh.

Errm, I don't want to think much about that, but a few hours ago, I realized that the relatively high percentage of gay men in Los Angeles (some parts) is a factor in the unimpressive average LA male height. Gay men are, on average, smaller than heterosexual men.
