We are in the early stages of exploring a possible move to LA area. What are some good suburbs that are walkable, have good schools (public or private) and have access to culture and amenities but without being flashy. Our budget would be around 1.8 possibly higher and we would love 3-4 bedroom house with some yard. Some people have mentioned that we may like South Pasadena. Thanks!

I would recommend coming out to L.A. for a week and explore the different areas and then make a determination.
There are so many places that fit your description of what you're looking for.
And yes, South Pasadena is a beautiful place !

Lots of options in that price range, what part of town will you be commuting to?

I am a SAHM and my husband has not yet finalized accepting job offers so we are definitely in early stages of planning and I realize that job location will affect our ultimate decision but I wanted to at least start exploring neighborhoods.

Finding a 4BR house for 1.8K is going to be pretty hard.

i wouldn't put too much thought into this until you know exactly where your husband will be working. you don't want to get your heart set on on say thousand oaks then your husband gets a job in downtown. commuting in LA is no joke.

South Pas is great, so are Crescenta Valley, La Canada, Burbank, parts of Studio City & Sherman Oaks, Encino, and select neighborhoods in LA (Hancock Park, Mount Washington, even Brentwood).

But you do have to figure out where you are going to work and then visit and decide what is important to you.

If you like your weather mild, $1.8M will get you a 4BR with some yard in most of the South Bay beach cities. You could probably even get a house in Manhattan Beach with that budget, although most of the offerings will be east of Sepulveda.

OP here--most of the job prospects are in Burbank.

Glendale, north of the 134, is good. LaCrescenta and Montrose are good. LaCanada is good. Burbank, north of Glenoaks is good. Lots of options.

There are a lot of really nice houses in Glendale but they rarely come up for sale. That's the only problem.
