It's rough. At least you won't have that far to go. Problem is that PCH has the traffic volume of a major expressway, but has the 5 minute traffic lights at the same time.

It's very irregular, too. Some days it'll take you 5 minutes. Others it'll take you half an hour to go that short distance. And since it's not a proper freeway, you can't check the real-time traffic reports on the internet (like at sigalert.com).

Thousands of people live with the PCH traffic every day. If you're patient, you won't have a major problem.

PCH is as RobertC says. You really have no other route to take thou. It has usually been easy for me in the mornings I have traveled it.

If they could find a way to convince filthy-rich housewives to not speed in their Mercedes' or Lexus' after loading up on martinis and cause accidents, PCH wouldn't be so bad.

Not only not an alternate route but since it is a single point failure, one accident on PCH equals goodbye two hours.

I go from the Palisades to SM and back all the time without going PCH. It all depends where you're going to... and from.

But, yes, traffic on PCH gets worse every day. That's why a lot of people are so hesitant to live in the Palisades and Malibu. It can be a bear of a commute. Good luck!

It is possible to get from the Palisades to SM and back without ever touching PCH, and I've done it a thousand times with multiple routes. Thing is, PCH has to be pretty much dead stopped for it to be worth it.

Look at a map if you want to know. I don't want to be the guy who lets the Westside traffic secret out on the net for everyone to see!
