I want to move to LA but i'm pretty broke. So I know that if/when I move i'll most likely be living in a more dangerous area. I guess I live in the most dangerous part of my current city, but my cities not all that dangerous to begin with. And basically if you stick to yourself and use common sense nobody really bothers you. You don't gotta worry about being randomly shot or robbed just walking down the street.

But I always here bad things about LA and it kinda makes me worry. So i'm just wondering how dangerous is LA for an outsider assuming you're not a trouble maker?

Would I be able to rent a house in one of these neighborhoods and move around with relative comfort? Or would I be beaten and robbed just for trying to live on their block?

Are you young with numbers tattooed on your neck or other visible places?

Then you might be approached initially to see if you have any gang affiliation and then become a normal person no more or less targeted for a property crime than anyone else. There is a slight chance that being a young man in a neighborhood if there is active warfare going on another will target you assuming that you are involved since you live and are in an area.

What is your budget? I doubt you are going to need to move to the very worst neighborhoods, just a very cheap one. There are cheap neighborhoods in the Valley and parts of South LA that are not totally "hood" dangerous, just very poor and run down.

Go to a working class hood in the valley like Sun Valley, Van Nuys or Panorama City.

LA has a lot of mildly safe older hoods that may look a bit unsafe but are calmer than you think. Don't get me wrong stuff still happens but these hoods aren't gang infested South side of Chicago bad.

The elephant in the room is what is your ethnicity? It does make a difference unfortunately. People can be hostile toward perceived outsiders even if you mean no harm to them. But its all case by case.

hey, being homeless in LA beats being homeless in places like New York or Chicago, at least you don't have to worry about freezing to death, the homeless in LA have got it made in the shade!
