Sadly the Ken dolls live in Beverly Hills and the rest of the points in the Platinum Triangle, and Brentwood. The only business they want to break into is the Real Husbands reality show spinoff.

Most SoCal natives are pretty "whatever." Nearly all of my friends are locals that grew up here - I grew up in Idaho. Some of my local friends did grow up upper middle class and have some skewed views (a bit spoiled - but that is anywhere). However, they're still pretty accepting and more genuine. I generally avoid other transplants as they tend to have something to prove. This is amplified in the gay community. Many were likely teased or not validated enough as kids so they become complete jerks in their adult life.

I can usually tell if someone is an LA native when they ask where I'm from. They say something like, "oh, I've never been. What is it like?" or just acknowledging they have no idea where that's at. Transplants usually scream, "OMG! Awful! That must have been terrible. I'm so embarrassed for you." 9 times out of 10 they're from a place even less desirable than where I came from.

Natives IRL are pretty chill and laidback. The natives represented on this forum are mostly uptight and entitled.

Based on very general observations of forum posts in the California forums, I think that the natives on this forum are simply reacting as expected after being subjected to concentrated dosages of "Why California sucks" generalities posted by people either unfamiliar with California beyond urban myths & shallow stereotypes or people with political agendas to push, also noting that both are fairly normal behaviors seen on Internet forums.

So true. Couldn't agree more.

Individuals' IRL and forum personas often are very different. Though I admit mine is basically the same

So I'm in LA now. All moved in and enjoying it so far It has been interesting to observe people in LA. It's true that everyone is pretty laidback and chill, but it's also strange how people can be so friendly and yet you need a warm intro to really meet people. In other words, most people seem to stick with their network/pack, and it's difficult to become part of those packs unless someone brings you in. Contrast that with other cities and it doesn't seem as difficult to get in in LA. Like, LA has a weird friendly-yet-impenetrable stance towards others.

The superficial people in LA are mostly transplants who live in the area between West LA and Downtown. Who often work or want to work in entertainment.
LA natives are very down to earth and laid back.

Another thing to consider is that LA has great weather year-round with some pretty hot summers and great beaches. Well, if it's hot, you don't want to wear a lot of clothing, but you don't want to look out of shape either so of course people take care of themselves. This can be seen as self absorbed, but really you just want to look good for yourself. I'm 31 now and live thousands of miles away from my hometown, but I can tell you that some of the most honest, down-to-earth people I've ever met were LA natives.
What a freakin' dumb topic to begin with.

What is "LA"?

The county of LA is bigger than 41 states, the "Greater Los Angeles Area" is bigger than every other state except Texas.

So people who visit "LA" and go to four bars and want to judge LA by that or even people who live here now and don't have a history don't know Los Angeles.

Los Angeles is full of quaint communities and areas where neighbors know each other and Orange County has the same.
