I currently live in Alhambra and my allergies have been kicking my butt. I have only lived here about 9 months now. Previously I had lived in the East San Gabriel Valley (Azusa/Glendora) and never had allergy problems. I seem to get bad when things bloom and this hot weather the last day or so has really hurt me. It seems like this winter/spring is either cool or hot, not much middle ground.

My question is, is there any reason why my allergies would be worse where I am now vs. the East SGV?

And generally speaking is there a rule of thumb to go by when looking for a place that will play nicely with my allergies in Southern California? For example, inland vs. closer to downtown vs beach communities etc...

What do you mean, it's all about wind? There was a lot more wind in Azusa than where I am now and had no problems.

And I've tried Zyrtec, Allegra, Claritin, Nasacort, and Flonase with little results (not all at the same time obviously). Currently trying local raw honey.

Pollen and particulates get blown around then go up your face holes. It varies from area to area at any given time.

You probably need a prescription then.

TAKE ALL THE DRUGS AT ONCE. But I feel you man.

Usually this time of year up until May/June hits me really bad with allergies. I've taken Claritin, Claritin-D (which I don't recommend), Nasacort, and Flonase in the past, but found no immediate relief for symptoms. Flonase worked if I took it daily as a pre-emptive measure. I just switched my insurance provider to a PPO and I'm headed in to see an allergy specialist. If you get them consistently and OTC drugs aren't working, I would suggest going to see a specialist to determine your exact needs.

It may not have to do with WSGV vs ESGV. For all you know, it could be some tree in your neighbor's yard, the temperature heating up just right for blooming, and the wind blowing its pollen your way. Seriously, it could be something as small as this. I hope you find something effective to help your allergies soon.

fluctonase helps and advair along with allegra and naphcon a is good for the eyes.. And yep take them allll at once. Except the benadryl for those nighttime allergies. My allergies here have gotten worse in the last 3 to 5 years. Maybe its gotten more humid at times? That would make sense. Anywhere where there are crops will be worse like oxnard. But in the desert you can get allergies also. As in I get allergies from desert brush. And I am sure pollution does something because it will inflame your airways and sinuses which help everything really kick in. The allergist says start with treating the head, then eyes, then nose etc.

^ This. Have you had an allergy test done? It may help to figure out what you're allergic to.

This past summer, we were miserable. It was our first summer in this house, and we couldn't figure out what was causing all the misery...until one particularly windy day, I saw some crazy yellow pollen being blown off of a tree from my next door neighbor's yard. Time to move, me thinks.

It's possible that your allergies being intense in the last day or so is more about the effect of the rain on Sunday/Monday than the heat. All the things that were getting ready to bloom will have had a turbo boost from the soaking, along with molds, grasses and trees. And then the winds are blowing it all around. Yay.

Default This helps me a lot!

I'm sold on this...

When the ENT gave this to me 7 years ago, it saved me from having sinus surgery!

Aside from that it helps wash away the pollen, pollution etc.
It's a little awkward to use at first, but you get used to it. Give it a try if you dare!
