My situation is very different than most. I currently work 100% from home. My employer is very stable (fed government) based in the DC metro area. I am extremely fortunate since I earn a six figure income. I am however very tired of living in the DC metro area, therefore I'm looking to relocate to a sunnier environment. My main issue is that I'm not familiar w/ L.A. (although I've visited on quite a few occasions).

I am in need of advice. I'm just interested in testing the waters on the West Coast for a few years. Which area in L.A. should I target? I am looking for a very safe environment with lots of palm trees, a walkable neighborhood, and a modern 2 bedroom apartment. It is imperative that I rent a two bedroom, because I need to use the extra space as my office area.

My max rental budget is no more than $ 1900/month. What are my options? Thanks!!

Where you're going to find problems is the intersection between "walkable" "modern" and $1900/mo for a 2 bed. That's a tough market in the city of LA. In the city of LA, walkable usually means old, and modern usually means expensive.
