Has anyone commuted from downtown LA to OC I.e. Santa Ana or Irvine on the Metrolink train? How was it? Any pros and cons? Was it better than driving?

Mostly a nice comfortable ride with good seating. The only downside is the limited schedule and high price.

I ride from Union Station to San Clemente Pier every now and then (instead of driving to SM, Huntington, or any of the other crowded beaches). That's even farther than Irvine and it's an easy ride.

The only stressful part is catching the train on time. Metrolink train comes every 45-60 mins or so. You gotta catch your train or you could be late for work or dinner.

Kind of expensive as mentioned... it's not too awful if you buy a weekly or monthly pass, IMO.

Prob the biggest issue that prevents me from using it is the last train "in/out" is pretty early, if you miss it, you will be lucky if you can get a considerably more expensive Amtrack train or any train at all.

It would be great if they could just run 1 late train on each route to pick up stragglers.
