Early 20's native Brooklynite looking to make my way to the city of angels. After doing some exploring back in February and trying find the perfect spot, my buddy and I have decided on living in Koreatown. We will be looking at finding a place near the Wilshire/Normandie Purple Line stop. I have decided to make the move with saving a nice amount of money as well as just obtaining a master's degree in Media Studies. Only other thing I wanted to mention is that I will be moving to Los Angeles carless and will depend on the Metro to get me where I need to go. I'm just hoping for some general thoughts. I have been doing some extensive research on the neighborhood and have been to Los Angeles a number of times, but this is the first time where my life won't be revolved around the city of New York on a full-time basis.

Any thoughts?
Advice?
Places to go to in K-town/surrounding areas?
Making a footprint in the entertainment industry of Los Angeles?

I'm just looking for any stories or anything I should probably be aware that I wasn't already. I'm not too concerned about my safety, as I've walked around many rough parts of the five boro's. We did some walking around the immediate area and didn't seem to have any issues, it seemed very residential with a huge amount of latinos/mexicans living in the area.

It can still get dangerous in Ktown. I love the area though. Best urban/walkable neighborhood in SoCal. But in NYC, neighborhoods like that will have street life and pedestrians all night long. Ktown, not so much. So do be safe and don't walk outside at 2am alone like you can in some part of similar NYC neighborhoods.

Manna KBBQ is my favorite KBBQ place in Ktown. Can't really comment much else about Ktown. Except make sure you apartment has at least a window A/C unit. Older buildings there and many don't have A/C but it can get really hot in summer there. Also, parking is horrendous there so a place with parking is almost mandatory if you can afford it.

That's the best neighborhood for car-free living though. Plenty to walk to and tons of metro lines.

@BRinSM, I actually just finished school. Trying to head out to Los Angeles to figure out my next move. And Jesse Mh, thats good to know. I understand that K-town still experiences some instances of violent crime.

Wii spa is amazing. You can manage for a bit with no car. Organise informational interviews with anyone in the, entertainment industry. Go to them smile and be enthusiastic and genuine and try,and make some contacts that way. Take a job whatever the pay with,a media company you like. Or an internship. When the proper job comes up you are, already there and known. Good luck.

I like Toe Bang a lot... Pretty chill spot in chapman plaza for korean food, drinks, and sports. Beer belly, HMS bounty are pretty cool spots too. If I were you I would look closer to housing near Wilshire and Western. Especially north of 8th st.
