hehe I am beginning to see that my budget is quite low. I have looked around priceline, hotwire and yahoo and found some places that seem ok. I will spend hardly any time in my hotel which is why I like to get a fairly cheap deal then spend cash on fun things.

One of the stes offers a good rate for an unnamed hotel but of a certain rating in a certain area. Has anyone got any experience of booking these?

The only 'problem' you can say I have with Priceline is that when you name your price it doesn't let you choose the hotel and picks a random one for you. I have used it and got a great hotel, and at a much cheaper than usual rate, but ideally I'd like to have more control over it before I spend my $$$.

Try http://losangeles.craigslist.org. It lists temporary places to stay. You can try hostels if you want something cheaper, but from my experience living in Venice they can be pretty loud and rowdy.
