Hope for homeless, ex-criminals: 5,000 new LA city jobs - MyNewsLA.com

“Today we start that transformation,” he said. ” As the third-largest employer in our county, we are prioritizing local hiring — to ensure that every qualified Angeleno has an equal opportunity to apply for full-time city jobs. Everyone deserves a chance at success.”

To ensure that those who are traditionally turned away due to criminal records or other circumstances, Garcetti specifically instructed city recruiters to refrain from asking about an applicant’s criminal record until later in the recruitment process, and avoid using credit consumer report data in deciding whether to hire people for non-managerial positions.

Now it makes sense why City Hall partnered with a criminal to organize the big Prince memorial concert.

This is Garcetti's homeboy
Activist gets 4-year term for bribery - latimes

"He's been branded a sellout for his cozy relationship with LAPD Chief Charlie Beck, and called a mouthpiece for Mayor Eric Garcetti, whom Ali regularly praises in his column."

I guess it's cool to be a criminal in L.A now and gets you in good with the Mayor.

Probably his Homeless Babysit Your Kids Initiative, in which a random homeless person will babysit your kids aged 3-12 for a night. This will cost the taxpayers $500 million.

He's busy promoting Hillary and dissing Trump

Mayor Rips Donald Trump at Opening of Hillary's L.A. HQ - Breitbart

"“Hillary Clinton loves California. And California loves Hillary Clinton,” Garcetti said. “We know a thing or two about building in this city, and that’s what this country needs. We don’t need somebody who’s going to talking about building walls, we need somebody who’s going to help us build bridges, and help us build buildings, and help us build roads, and help us build our transit networks. That’s what these laborers, these working men and women, know something about. That’s what Hillary Clinton knows something about.”"
Yeah I'm sure Clinton knows more about building versus Donald Trump...
"“This is a man who would set women back three decades,” the mayor said of Trump. “This is a man who — just like we saw during desegregation, when people talked about men of color coming after your women — that’s what he said about us who are people of color, Mexicans who come here, working hard, and he wants to demonize us? Not in our state, Mr. Trump.”"
So Garcetti is calling himself a person of color now? I know he's supposed to be half Mexican, but still wheres the color??

It is very shameful and I think it’s kind of sad that Donald Trump has never had to work a day in his life,” Huerta said, calling Clinton “the most qualified candidate” in the race.
Donald Trump has never worked a day in his life?? What?

Meanwhile, outside the building, a small group of Sanders supporters held signs reading, “Viva Bernie!” and “Deport Her!”
So people in L.A LOVE Hillary ? Really Garcetti?

A liar, a sellout, and a brainless liberal walk into a bar.

The bartender then says, "How are you, Mr. Garcetti?"

Mayor Eric Garcetti ordered city departments Friday to hire thousands of new employees over the next three years, with a focus on recruiting people who have been homeless, possess criminal records or face other challenges to finding jobs.

ROFLMAO imagine the quality of work out of this group...LA deserves to go belly-up bankrupt and to start over, infrastructure and financial (pension) problems and all.

You are part of why California got stuck with so many homeless.

After people commit crimes and repay whatever debt they have to society, they still need to work. And if they are no longer committing crimes and have reformed, then they definitely deserve a chance to prove themselves.

What happens to them if they aren't hired by anybody. Either they go on the streets to become HOMELESS a and possibly still, sell their bodies, or sell drugs for cash.

Things you claim to hate.

Criminal record is such a vague thing. Someone could have a record for public urination, and to stop someone from getting is job because of that is just plain stupid. Someone could have been caught with drugs on them 15 years ago. Perhaps they haven't used in a long time. To indefinitely bar them from work because of that is stupid.

Garcetti is doing the right things.

I notice all of you complainers could not come up with ideas that would prevent homelessness. You're in no position to criticize the Mayor's ideas. At least he has ideas, you guys have no ideas beyond name calling.

Certain people on this thread shouldn't criticize liberal ideas when they could not come up with liberal, conservative, or ANY other ideas to prevent homelessness in the first place.

Criminal record reform and credit report reform (these things are used to deny people employment) could go along way towards preventing homelessness. If everyone denies someone employment because of credit issues or a criminal record, guess what? They go homeless.

NYC has done the same thing. Unless someone wants to work in a bank or as a cop or certain related jobs they can no longer use credit as a basis of denial.

So you are admitting that the homeless are pretty much criminals.
If a private employer or charity wants to hire criminals then perhaps they should be able to.
But as a taxpayer, sorry I don't really want to be paying money towards hiring felons.

Also we did come up with ideas, but those ideas get shot down by the P.C crowd.
