I, and many others, are venomously against Vegas charging to park. What a crock. Wife and I have discussed changing to places such as Red Rock, South Point, etc. We have even discussed Laughlin, state line, and Mesquite.

25% of Vegas business comes from here (SoCal). We drive up there, we never fly. It's just as fast to drive as it is to fly, by the time all the airport rigmarole is taken into consideration.

Just wondering what you all think.

Can you give examples of which hotels charge for parking now? It is ridiculous and stupid considering there is plenty of space in Vegas and garages are never full. They should just charge only if there's a special event like mayweather fight or something.

All the MGM properties, which are 12 or so.

MGM Resorts Parking

The reasoning is that "the parking experience" can be improved. And that 45 million visitors per year are creating parking issues, 25% of which come from SoCal. So they need to build more parking ramps, which costs money.

Sure, other places aren't charging for parking, but the experiment can go both ways, like resort fees did. Either it works, and everyone starts doing it, or it fails and MGM properties rescind the policy.

I forsee a "space vs. greed" issue arising. Yes, there is plenty of space in Nevada, except for the very specific area of the strip. I get that. Space on the STRIP itself can be limited due to building, boundaries, the 15, etc. But Nevada property values are funny, the strip is 11 million an acre and 2 blocks east or west is worthless. It's all about that little gold nugget of street, funneling people there, taking advantage of their drunkenness, not knowing the area, etc.

But if the strip starts it, in theory everyone in town could collude. I'd find it unfortunately funny if places like the Station Properties think they can get in on the greed, but who knows. If the State Line and Laughlin started in on it I'd boycott and find new entertainment just to protest the utter greed. They are already greedy but it's still a silly fun "oh well" greed. No need to turn it into NYC banker greed.

I'll just go to a hotel where they don't charge to park. Simple. I mean are the rest of the hotels on the strip going to follow suit? If I'm running a casino then this is a way for me to draw more people to my resort.

What does MGM have that's so special? There's plenty of other hotels that have casinos, bars, restaurants and shopping.

This is only around The Strip?

I'm assuming these new rules are from those from California.
