You saw what you wanted to see. You turned a blind eye to their use of meth, crack, or smack. You may have turned a blind eye to their turning tricks, too.

Although, if they'd been clean, at least in Nevada they could have worked in a house legally. An option California does not provide, and should. At least they wouldn't be on welfare and at least they'd be paying taxes.

I'm not sure where you spend your time that you have come to the conclusion that all poor women are drug abusing whores and I don't think I will ask

Oh I'm not perfect but I made good life choices so happy with my life just like you made the right choice for you and got a union job and now you have a big fat pension to live on. And I am a empathetic person but not to losers and addicts I work with dog rescues and shelters and help dogs that have to live their lives with us flawed humans.

$800 a month is NOT ENOUGH to live off ALONE in Missouri.

There are some other reasons why they don't move.

Frankly California has more services, especially LA. LA has a bus and train system they can use to go to doctors. In the middle of the country where it is CHEAP, they'd need a CAR to go to their medical appointments (we are speaking of populations on SSI and SS, not the healthiest people).

There's no magic where a person on fixed income from the government can move to the middle of the country, where they would need enough income to not only get a mortgage, but an auto loan.

Did you even read what I wrote? They live in weekly motels because they can't save the money for moving expenses or security deposits.

I'm not going to argue with you about this, I worked with these people for several years, I know first hand what difficulties they faced.
Since Clinton reformed welfare as we know it, let's just say no one cranks out kids just to get more welfare money, as the additional money is basically just a few dollars extra. This is assuming the woman is even on welfare.

Welfare is generally time limited unless the person has a disability.

Well good on you Finper. Really.

But, now you mention about making "good life choices" where others don't who end up homeless and in other bad situations - I got a few questions for you. I have asked these same questions many times of many people who, like yourself, express great pride in their choice-makings. I have never gotten squat for acceptable answers. Maybe you'll be the one to satisfy my curiosity.

To what do you attribute your ability to make good choices in life - that you should take self credit - where others fail?

Do you feel you were born superior to all these other wastrels languishing about?

Did god smile upon you and not on the other dregs s/he created? If so, why?

Or did you somehow create your own ability to be superior - you know, like before you were born?

From where did you derive your powers of excellence?

On another note: thanks for helping out with the pups. Pretty big of you. Really.

People make choices on where to live based on their ability to get car loans or not?

Which is why so many seemingly healthy people are on " disability " right .

This is an interesting article about it from NPR certainly not a right wing news outlet .

Somehow I have a feeling whatever I wrote wouldn't be a acceptable answer to you. So I'll just say I listened to Nancy Reagan and said no to drugs. And said yes to nice things and dogs
