Does anyone know if there are any other cities or countries where they have campaigns like this to encourage people that don't speak the official language to vote?

It seems to be a clear attempt to cater to the illegal immigrant population as Garcetti has been doing. He is hoping Clinton will help make all these people legal and then they will vote for him because he has been pandering to them.

"The campaign, part of a larger effort that’s encouraging eligible residents to become citizens, to vote and stay engaged, will consist of Spanish-language public service announcements as well as printed billboards to stress the importance of this year’s election and the need to vote, city officials said."

People worry too much about the Spanish language issue. Most immigrants who come here as adults never completely master English, but, their kids always do. Integration happens, slowly but surely.

But if the parents want to vote in Spanish, why is that so wrong? They have kids in LAUSD. They have to deal with Metro and our crappy road pavement and stupid property tax.

Most Spanish speakers here in SoCal are legal, anyway.

It would be cool if they voted, but not for Garcetti.

Is he back from watching the Olympics yet?

Wonder when his next speech will be where he brags about all the great things he's done for the city.

Mayor Eric Garcetti touts LA as model city in DNC speech

Violent crime on the rise, homeless population out of control, sanctuary city. Hit and run capital!

Yes a real model city!
The whole nation should be run like L.A!

You're mad at him because he's encouraging people to vote for him? Isn't that what someone running for office is supposed to do?

Here's some mind blowing statistics for you.

The U.S.Census Bureau reported that as of 2004, 3.9 million people in L.A.County spoke only English at home; 3.7 million spoke primarily Spanish at home.

https://www.truthorfiction.com/illegal-aliens/

DHS does not offer unauthorized immigrant estimates for Los Angeles County, but the Migration Policy Institute estimates that, at 1,062,000 persons
Unauthorized Immigrants in California

I know math can be hard so I will do it for you.

1,062,000 divided by 3,900,000 = 27.2% of Spanish speakers are illegal. That would imply that 72.8% (THE MAJORITY!!!) are legal.

geez that's just sad. I have 3 Mexican employees and they all speak English. Why would I hire a Spanish speaking person here in CA?? If I moved south of the border I would learn Spanish why don't they learn English??
