Your mayor, not mine. I live in County.

About the only really workable solution I can think of is double deck freeways. Seems to me solving the earthquake problems of double deck freeways wouldn't be any more difficult than drilling tunnels underground below existing city. It would have the additional benefit of not requiring additional right of way.

Actually I think most of L.A. is headed for traffic melt down. Originally when L.A. expanded it built out. The problem now is there is no more "out" left. Only option now is to build UP. But that increases population density and we don't have the mass transit infrastructure to support a huge increase in population density.

Too bad you can't change many of the major streets to add a lane by prohibiting parking and converting the parking lane to an additional lane, but then there would be no place to park the cars that used to park there.

If you dig tunnels, then why not just put in trains tracks for trains instead of roads for cars?

Yep...he could find a home in Beach cities OR Palos Verdes. I live in Wiseburn which is Los Angeles Unincorporated and we are surrounded by Hawthorne. All I see on the road around here are Tesla's driving like maniacs...they think they are at a speedway. Ha!

Make sure it's the auto, though, since the manual has way too heavy a clutch for city driving.

No one wants to drown in one of those things when an earthquake hits.

I. Deport the 1 million illegals living in LA.

2. $2 per gallon tax to fund light rail lines paralleling all freeways and some major streets.

Problem solved.

As people transition to electric vehicles due to high fuel costs, start increasing registration on electric vehicles. As we've seen, a sizable portion of LA drivers will not give up their vehicle as their daily commute option no matter what(arghhh I'm gonna get raped on public transportation!) so $1500+ for vehicle registration is certainly feasible. People put out of work(car dealerships, gas stations, car insurance employees, etc) would be replaced by the construction jobs needed to create the rail lines and partially supplanted by the jobs needed to maintain and operate the lines. Oh and best of all, no need for minimum wage! With a million people gone, employers would need to raise wages to attract employees!

It didn't happen in San Francisco because the tubes were designed for it. BAY AREA QUAKE : BART's Underwater Tunnel Withstands Test - latimes
Of course it drives up the cost and therefore the tolls and subsidies.
