I would like some other opinions.
hope to get clear but kind and friendly advice.

I have a coupon from the city I live in and they will pay 70 percent of my rent and pay for deposit, it's in the San Francisco Bay Area. Where I currently live.

Very happy to have the option. and thankful!

but it's not where I want to be. I really want to live in West Los Angeles.
Have lived there before and have been wanting to move back. (I moved at the time, 5 years ago because in the Valley, was too hot and didn't like the sleazy feel in LA (meaning porn and inappropriate billboards), but now I've gained perspective and can definitely accept it in LA now, plus I do not like the bay area, they are more uptight and Passive aggressive in San Fran bay area).

Can't decide. IF landlords where I live in SF bay area will accept my 3rd party paid rent (70%paid). But my heart has been set on moving to WEST Los Angeles in a couple of weeks.

This is na Voucher it's a certificate and the city pays most of my rent.

I'm going back and forth in my mind and can't decide.

I could wait, live here with this certificate and delay my move to LA but I'm afraid I may not be able to get back.

this certificate will last 2 years with reviews every 6 months and then re-apply totally/ re-do application after 1 year.

Sounds great and obvious to use it, If I can find a landlord here that will take a 3rd party. a lot of apt owners do not and then I won't be able to afford to stay here after this time. Way to Expensive.

I recently took a trip to West LA, dropped off my resume and really liked West LA.

I don't have a car. can't afford one. The bay area has Excellent public transportation. and hopefully LA would be ok and somewhat possible to do my job search and apartment search. but not as familiar. I had a car last time I lived in Los Angeles, 5 years ago.

The hard part is where to stay in LA? while I look for an apartment?
Have tried ads but no luck so far.

Am I crazy?
be nice. Lol

I just really want to be in Los Angeles where my interests are. some acting for fun, warm beach and LA has the same interests I like. I find the San Fran Bay area boring! nice and safe but very boring.

What should I do? I guess the obvious is to take the certificate and stay for 1 year. but it's bothering me. I feel like I will miss out and afraid I will have to use up the money I have saved living here instead of using that for a possible apartment in LA.

Only problem is I don't have anywhere to go in LA, motels would eat up my money fast.

What would you do if you had this opportunity, but really wanted to live somewhere else?

It's not section 8.

I should have clarified in my post - I would give up the certificate if I moved to LA.

May have to anyway. Most landlords in san fran bay area do not accept any kind of 3rd party payments towards rent.

They don't want to accept it because it then locks them into a form of rent control, and with the way the rental market is there I wouldn't do it either.

You originally left the LA area because of the porn and inappropriate billboards? That's the first I've ever heard of someone leaving for that reason.

Hahaha

That's not the only reason, the heat because I was living in the valley at the time, it was getting to me and overall LA was starting to feel sleazy.

That was what i felt at that time. And I felt like i missed the bay area. The Abundance of beautiful trees plants flowers. At that time LA bothered me. It was my perspective at the time.

Now I feel different and want to try LA again. But I like West LA, to be not so far from the beach.

Oh that makes sense.
In San Fran Bay Area, they keep raising the rent.

I always thought it was because slow payment from the Sec 8 or in this case 3rd party and/or they don't want poor people.

If that's too, I can understand because they're thinking we won't be able to pay rent.

In this case, if I was a landlord/owner, I think I would consider it and except it because rent will be paid for sure at least 70% of it and it's easy for tenant to come up with only 30% of their portion.

Owner doesn't have to worry about job layoffs or anything like that - rent will be paid.

Lived in the Valley for years, I don't recall seeing billboards like that.

How do you get 70% of your rent covered up north and plan on paying for rents in West LA which will be higher than other places?

Also it has not gotten cooler over the past few years in LA. Maybe West LA vs the valley will be cooler a bit but not much has changed I imagine. Plus as seain mentioned, you are going to be paying big bucks to live where you want to live.
