I live South of the 210, West of the 15, and North of the 10, so i'm surrounded by alot of milage of freeways. I grew up around loud traffic all my life so it's not like it bothers me.

It wasn't until last night when i start questioning why so nights i could hear the traffic roaring 3x louder than usual? I can't be the only one who notices and i'm sure it's the same for the entire LA region. Could it be the winds that carry noise? Or is it actually a sudden increase of traffic at 2am?

Please somebody tell me i'm not crazy and other's notice to

It can be related to weather conditions. Sound travels differently if there's moisture in the air.

^ it hasn't been humid here lately. A very comfortable 80 degree dry heat the past couple days.

Hm. You may not be wrong about the winds, then.

It hasn't been windy here ether :/

Thanks for the attempt to answer though. I'm looking forward to an expert to unfold this mystery.

My guess would be it has to be a psychological approach where the conscious has a greater attention focus

I've noticed a low cloud layer absorbs a great deal of the cityscape background drone, where as it's loudest on clear nights.

In that case, I don't think the L.A. forum is the right place for this discussion - I'm sure it's a worldwide phenomenon.

I put it on the LA forums because the metropolitan area is filled with freeway walls that are meant to be noise cancelation, yet is still doesn't seem very effective.
