Santa Monica seems to be getting more congested, I think as a result of higher buildings being built, "road diets" and that subway. There's homeless all over the place. You can't park in a mini-mall without being bothered by some sketchy character. Anyone becoming turned off by Santa Monica?

I've lived in Santa Monica for 30 years, and have long considered moving out.

I don't sense that there are any more homeless here than in years past. It's always been so.

Back around 1990, give or take a year, I saw Martin Sheen outside the 7/11 on Wilshire and 7th, talking to homeless people. It was my first "celebrity sighting" since moving here from New York.

Yes, SM is way more congested than in years past. I hate driving anywhere due to all the bicyclists disregarding stop signs, and every other law. But the city council likes that we hate driving. They want us out of our cars and on to those green Hulu bicycles or the Blue Bus.

SM is one of the farthest parts of LA from me & I go maybe every several mos ONLY for the 3rd Street Promenade area. I have no other reason to go there. I've always seen a few homeless people there & the smell of urine.

If you're not in a car, downtown SaMo is a very pleasant place to be. Cheap access to virtually limitless parking doesn't help.

The last police chief was a PC affirmative action hire who was recruited just because she was a black woman from Inglewood. She made the SMPD too PC and adapted a lackadaisacal LAPD type attitude towards the homeless, unlike her two predcessors who were both excellent chiefs.

New York was the same way until things got out of hand enough that Gulliani came in to clean things up. These things go in cycles.

Do you believe the interim Chief, Kenneth Semko, will change those policies? I know nearly nothing about him.

You must be new, it's been like this for the past 7 years I've lived here.

There are quite a few people here who have lived in the Santa Monica area for a great deal more than seven years.
