2028 is still a decade away !

So we gotta suffer until 2028 to make the city finally nice for the Olympics visitors .

Didn't he promise to solve homelessness his first term ?

Isn't this basically kicking the can down the road since he won't be Mayor in 2028?

---

The city should consider the 2028 Olympics as its deadline for making marked improvements on homelessness, housing and transit infrastructure, Garcetti added. L.A. stands to profit significantly from the games, some of which will take place at sites in the San Fernando Valley. Small businesses in particular will reap the benefits, Garcetti said.

“Good jobs, affordable housing and a transportation system that works for all of us will be the key to preserving all the gains we have made,” he said. “With the Olympics coming here, we need to ask ourselves: Who do we want to be when the world comes to us in 2028?”

Crookcetti also promises to solve traffic by 2075, and the housing shortage by 3000.

It's also Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas of District 2 (Los Angeles County) who has touted the homeless issue but they want people to build Granny Flats on their property to house the homeless. What happened to all the money they got from tax payers to help the homeless?

There are actually people in my community who are doing this - building the Granny Flats for the homeless. I think the issue needs to be addressed but how did it happen in the first place? How did we get to this point?

I am so tired of this place. The traffic has gotten so bad. My blood pressure goes up every time I am out driving. Crazy people driving... Ughhh

Problem is a big percentage of the homeless on the streets have mental issues and drug and alcohol issues .

A granny flat isn't going to fix that .

Many of these homeless that are raving on the streets need to be institutionalized .

They are a threat to themselves and others .

I'm sure there are tons of things happening all the time and it never makes the news . Homeless attacking people etc .

jm, I have a friend whose a therapist and we have had talks about the homeless issue and you are correct - many have a lot of mental disorders and they have been on the streets for years. THey will never go into a granny flat - apartment or public housing. Yes, single moms with children need help - VETS - help these people first. The mentally ill is such a sad sad thing to watch in Hawthorne-Lawndale area. There seems to be many and it's heartbreaking.

Yes. Actually I have a feeling a lot of the homeless housing will eventually go ..not to the ones visible on the streets...but rather to like you said struggling single moms... The reason being the homeless on the streets living in tents generally refuse shelter. When all this new housing gets built that the Mayor is always talking about what is going to change?...

Isn't the argument that they can't force the homeless to do anything?

And granny flats also won't stop them from visiting libraries so they can gawk at 15-year-olds in skirts, as I witnessed today.
