Berfore I make my post I just want to say Im not Latino, Im anglo. But Im not racist either. But I've been hearing about this thing called "the Aztlan Movement" saying that all the Mexicans we reunite and take back the southwestern states. (California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and Utah) because those states "Belong to Mexico"

Do you guys think that this could actually happen one day? I want some honest opinions from you guys. No racist or stupid comments pls.

Lastly, I dont live in LA (would love too though) Im just surprised that there is so much racism in a liberal democratic progressive city like Los Angeles, and as a matter fo fact the state of California as a whole

But what do LA residents think of this movement? Could this actually happen?

I don't know much about reconquista and I am Latino. BTW, Mexicans are white. The correct way to word it is Anglo or Latino.

i was born and raised in the greater LA area and i've never heard of this movement. whether or not mexico wants the southwest back in their possesion someday is moot, we've got bigger guns. unless mexicans immigrants start turning into roadside bombers, it will be easy to quash any type of mexican insurrection for reunification.

I am a grad student at CSULA. MeChA is HUGE here and at many of the Cal States. I have to keep my mouth shut in class because whenever there is mention of illegal immigration, they go crazy and equate someone who doesnt support illegal immigration to being a racist (in my experience at this university). I went with 2 students to a Day of the Dead celebration and really angered them when they wanted to discuss political issues with me. They also pride themselves on being cultured and educated, but no little to NOTHING about any culture that isn't their own. IMO they aren't much different than the Black Panthers, except I don't think MeChA is particularly violent which is uh nice lol.

That's just my 2 cents. Sorry that I generalized, but that has been my experience with nearly every member I have came across.

Years ago (80s) when I was in school there came to one of the (anti Reagan - LOL!) rallies a number of representatives from various fringe groups. MeChA were there with this wooden placard on which there was a North American map painted. The map showed the entire SW US labeled as "Aztlan" and part of Mexico.

Of course such a group will purport that. Is it possible? I cannot rule it out. But that having been said, I consider the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in full force and therefore such an attempt would constitute an act of attempted overthrow or putsch and likely be prosecuted accordingly.

Mexicans are white? The origin of the Mexican people are the Aztecs, Mayans, and other indigenous peoples native to the Americas. While there are some Mexicans of European descent they make up a smaller percentage of the overall Mexican population.

its all a bunch of noise.

im born and bred in LA and this reconquista stuff is a phantom. the media, and racist (white supremacists/ storm front) groups make it out to be a big deal when in fact it isnt. its a bunch of hooey. its something that college kids beleive, but then forget about. as angelinos, we dont worry about that.

trust me, the mexicans dont want to take anything back. its a few college kids here and there. nothing serious. the wack-job, looney tunes, storm fronters are the ones who hype this up and give it more importance than it deserves. normal people like myself could care less.

I think the North Koreans have a better shot of taking over Los Angeles.
