Just for curiosity, is there a comfortable living in LA for someone who might earn 50k in their field?

Not in the city center, at least. 50k would mean homeless. Most people I know in LA making that either live in a sketchy neighborhood or put up with a long commute.

Yeah... I definitely wouldn't consider it comfortable.

I personally wouldn't even consider it, once you factor in taxes, plus fuel costs for long commutes. However, if you really want to live there but can't command a higher salary, definitely consider having room mates so you can afford a nicer neighborhood.

You will be living month to month with no savings and most likely in a gritty/sketchy neighborhood like Inglewood, Lynwood, Gardenia, Hawthorne, or Compton. Correction I don't think you could even afford Hawthorne now that Tesla is there. Get 2 roomates and move to Redondo Beach and call it a day.

I live in LA, a single person making 50K can live decently. You might want to do a roommate situation to save on rent. If you're not loaded with debt(student loans) I think you would be fine.

Why are you posting on this forum? Ask a moderator to move it to the LA forum, you're getting comments from people who don't even live in CA never mind LA.

If you want to know the truth, find an area you wish to live in and get the zip code. Then look up cost of living for that area and also look in realtor.com for homes for sale and rent.

That is true... but I don't think I've ever seen one comment where someone said it was cheaper to live in metro CA than here. 50k here is alright as long as you pick up roommates... otherwise... good luck with that.

Pretty confident my reply was accurate.

Are people serious about lying like this, because last time I checked, software engineers in the valley were apparently living in poverty situations while they ironically complain about how Python or C++ was being outsourced to India. Maybe you computer tinkerers need to stop leaving $100 tips to Starbucks workers and then you won't be so poor, you stupid idiots.

It's as expensive as it is for someone making $250k per year.

Just about everyone pays the same price for goods and services.
