A plea for help and warning for others: Today at noon, my red 2017 Volkswagen Beetle with the license number "BEETLE9" was stolen from the Studio City Hand Car Wash while it was being dried.

A "tall white female" hopped in the car and took off in it.

I know it's a long shot, but if anyone knows anything relevant, I'd appreciate if you could contact LAPD.

And to those of you who frequent the Studio City Hand Car Wash, be careful. The car wash doesn't even seem to be cooperating with me or LAPD thus far.

This car is my most cherished possession, so I'm praying it's found intact.

I'm sorry about that. I love cars too, and I can't imagine what it would be like for someone to steal one of mine. I know you have probably been asked this, and even perhaps personally inquired about, but is there any GPS tracking capability associated with it? It's a 2017 model year, so I would think that there would be some sort of SOS type module onboard that could help locate it.

I'm sure they have a team working around the clock on the case

Thanks for your kind words, Hiruko. This car has a lot of sentimental value for me, and I put a lot of time in money into it, which seems wasted now.

The car does have an "SOS" feature (Volkswagen Car-Net), but I never registered for the service because I read it was more expensive than it was worth. Also, I honestly never thought I'd have to worry about my car being stolen. You can bet that I'll add a tracking device to this car or any future ones I own, though.

I didn't actually see the woman who stole my car. (I only saw my car once the woman had entered it and started backing up.) I'm relying on the description given to me by the employee who was drying my car.

The LAPD and my insurance company seem to share your optimism. I also found some CHP statistics that say ~95% of automobiles stolen in 2017 were recovered (in varying conditions, of course). I'm still feeling very worried, though.

How in the world can the car wash not cooperate when it was stolen while in their possession? I'd be speaking to a lawyer.

What is unique? There are probably thousands of beetles on the road in LA

Because the employees are likely illegal and don't want to be deported
