Why do so many sports arenas wind up in Inglewood? I heard the radio guy Tim Conway Jr. asking this but I didn't hear the rest of the show. I'm talking about the new stadium for the Rams and Chargers.

Wild guesses: they have a lot of empty space. They are near the airport.

It was Hollywood Park before, and the property was chosen, yes, because of flat land and it's cooler closer to the ocean than inland. Hollywood wanted a racetrack--"the sport of kings"--closer to home and at the time there was Potrero Country Club with its golf course close by. The whole area was pleasantly semi-rural back then.

Also the Clippers arena.
A tangent: Building an indoor, artificial turf stadium in Southern California. Disgraceful.
The Coliseum could have been further upgraded with corporate seats, tailgate areas, parking, traffic improvements for 1/10 the cost.

Cheaper property. Opportunity for gentrification. Proximity to LAX. Many factors.

Maybe but then they wanted the people to pay for it instead of a speculator who will retain ownership. So if it was 1/10 the cost it would still be a 100% more than I am paying now.

Inglewood was deep in debt so the mayor, James Butts, offered up the large parcel of open land for anybody that wanted to build a stadium or large project. Kronke, The Rams owner came knocking and now the Clippers owner Steve Ballmer is in the mix. Plus its hard to get sh*t build in the actual city of LA. Inglewood is not Los Angeles. Plus gentrification is coming along with it. Open up a Google maps tab and see for yourself. The city is close to the ocean, LAX is literally next door with the 405, 110, and 105 freeways boarder it.. white folks want Inglewood back plain and simple.

Cost of land and availability of land. If you to by same land size in Los Angeles you will be paying a premium for it.

I can't speak to Newark but Inglewood has Western LA along with no Ice Cube and NWA chronicles of infamy
