Not mentioned in the mainstream media (usually these types of racial conflicts are downplayed), but apparently a few months ago there was a sit down and truce called between the Mexican American gang Florencia 13 and the Black gang East Coast Crips. They are two of the larger gangs in Los Angeles county both in terms of territory claimed and membership numbers.

Both gangs were involved in a very brutal and racially based gang war going on for over 13 years. It got so bad both sides were killing people simply based on skin color and no gang affiliations. This conflict was also the subject of one episode of Gangland.

This is welcome news and hopefully it will last, despite a lot of bad blood between them from the conflict.

I think I speak for a HUUUUUUGGEE chunk of the adult population when I say that....maybe, it's time for people to grow up and stop the jeauvenile bulls*** that is gang activity.

Pull your damn pants up, get a job (there are tons of programs to help with that, which I gladly support) and start being productive to society, rather than destructive.

I am a liberal Democrat with socialist leanings. Gangs do not create a cohesive functioning society with a strong safety net for the vulnerable and elderly. They bring dystopia, anarchy and aggravated social problems.

Grow up boys! Put your Man Pants on and start being relevant and responsible!

Unfortunately, it's not that easy.

“I never looked at it like a gang. It was like a family.”

I have read and watched videos about this online. The original problem between these groups was not racial in the begining. It was over drugs and then it became racial after that. Before that these gangs were actually on freindly terms and many of the older guys never got involved.

Its about time all gangs called a truce. That **** is so old now. Last time I was over there on the east side of south central, I didn't see any gangsters, they used to be out in full force back in the 90s. I saw a few kids on skateboards though, that is a good thing.

From this summer:

The gruesome slayings were among seven Los Angeles-area murders linked to the Fulton clique of MS-13 in the last two years, according to an indictment unsealed Tuesday that charged 22 members of the gang, most of them in connection with first-degree murder and racketeering.

An ultra-violent MS-13 gang entered the U.S., then stalked L.A. with blades and bats:

The late Terry Anderson talked about this on his show. Black people he knew were being targeted and harassed because of their race by "gang bangers". BTW, I never understood that term as it applies to gang members, because it means something else too but that's not what they do. Or is it...

It simply means members of a gang.

So the root of slang term "banger" in gang banger? My guess is that after gangsters transformed from just fighters as seen in the TV show Adam-12's opening credits with the dispatcher sending them to stop a gang fight "with chains and knives" to primarily potential gunfighters with weapons that go "bang". As opposed to other slang meanings of banger.

Yeah crack came via the government and changed everything. Old heads and OGs say there was never beefs between the Black and Latino gangs because they had their own beefs to deal with. They mostly lived in the same neighborhoods. After crack, the Mexican Mafia in the 90s pushed all Latino gangs to eradicate Blacks from "their" neighborhoods and then the whole racial wars started. Crack and then the '92 riots really changed a lot for LA in regards to racial relations. It has taken decades but it's finally easing up again.

Like back in old-timey days when a certain person was a lifeguard, and "corn pop" was one tough dude.
