I was at McDonad's the other day and notice that they block play area door with trashcan. The thing is that there is an exit sign at the top of the door and play area have emergency exit door. Also at the top of the door it does say this door to remain unlocked during business hours. I told shift manager that it's illegal to block the door and he said his boss told him to do that. Am I wrong that its illegal? If so to whom would one report it to?

Fire code violation. Search for LAFD code violation reporting or call the local station for reporting instructions.

Post United Fire Doors inspection

Blocked any fire door, especially an exit door, NFPA 80, chapter 5 and NFPA 101 chapter 11 address those issues.

What does this mean? Your sentence is not clear.

From what I've seen, most McDonald's restaurants with a play area have another emergency exit door besides the one entering the play area.

Yes all play areas by law must have an emergency exit door inside the play area. Those McDonald's with play area tend to block entrance to it after they do evening cleaning. Being that door can be used as an exit in emergency, that action appear to be illegal

Your picture doesn't tell the whole story. They are evidently blocking a seating area that cannot be used. Since there is no seating allowed in any restaurant normal traffic patterns do not apply. There should only be a minimum number of customers at any one time, nowhere near the maximum allowed, so the normal number of entry/exit points are not necessarily applicable. They are obviously trying to limit access to unused areas.

Why are you trying to cause them problems?
