Hi everyone,

So glad to have found this site!

I'm looking to move from Chicago to Santa Clarita, and work in Van Nuys. Can you tell me about the commute if I leave at 7am, return around 5? Is there any public transportation? Thank you !

Expect about an hour commute each way during the rush hour traffic. Otherwise 20 minutes if no traffic.

"Public transportation?" Lol, you ARE from Chicago, aren't you! (There isn't any.)

Plan on barreling down the freeway at 85+mph, or 5mph!

Biggest concern in Santa Clarita is wildfires. (And no, I'm NOT kidding.)

I was thinking about the fires today. Can you recommend any other neighborhoods near by?

Actually there is a metro rail (green line) that takes you to downtown LA.

You can use Metrolink to get to Burbank Airport and then take a bus to Van Nuys.

But what is so special about Santa Clarita? Do you want to buy a mansion there?
Burbank, North Hollywood, Van Nuys are closer.

If your job in Van Nuys is close to the Orange subway line, check places that are near it.

I've been out to Santa Clarita a few times, just this weekend went to Valencia. I find it to be a pretty nice area. It looks newer and pretty clean.

I have a feeling that it's probably pretty expensive, I doubt 2k a month will cover a townhouse rental.

you have to go over the Newhall pass both ways, it's always busy during rush hour and if there is a wreck and there often is then it's jammed. Plus there is no alternate routes. A mountain range separates the two valleys.
