I really loved hearing him on Red Eye Radio. What separated him from most other hosts was his knowledge of history, and his ability to incorporate little history lessons into his broadcasts.

And he'd sometimes do entire segments talking about history. For example, every December 7th he'd talk to a woman who was on the island of Oahu when Pearl Harbor was bombed, and she'd recount her firsthand experience, which was interesting because what's not often mentioned is that almost nobody had electric power after the attack and when night came, everybody expected to see Japanese soldiers skulking around their front lawns. It was fascinating to hear her describe the entire ordeal in the detail only somebody who was actually there could convey.

McIntyre's morning show was great as well, though it didn't have the same intimacy as Red Eye Radio. I can still hear McIntyre's wife doing the flight attendant announcement with the English accent, followed by Sinatra singing In Other Words (Fly Me to the Moon). And remember the Boiled Owl song?

Boiled owl,
Boiled owl,
We all want some boiled owl.

I really miss all that.

I liked MCIntyre in the morning too. He was better than most talk show hosts. He does a article in the Sunday Daily News still.
