The rate hasn't kept up with the increase in the general population over the summer. Shameful.

It sounds like people trying to join LAPD will have an uphill climb, so at least the city is trying to keep out extremists.

Many members of the LAFD have refused vaccinations as well. (And some live out of state and commute here.)

....one of the long-distance travelers is Capt. Cristian Granucci, who lives in Texas.

He’s the guy who put out a video in which he said he was so “hopping mad” about the city’s mandatory vaccination order, “my head could pop.” And he was quoted in a 2018 Texas online news article in which he said, “I moved to Texas … for the freedoms that it offers.”

First responders, of all people, ought to be as fully protected as possible, no ifs, ands or buts. But will city officials have the nerve to stand up to resisters like Capt. Granucci? Hard to say, but reforming the LAFD has never been easy, given the “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” culture that exists between the department, the firefighters union, the City Council and the mayor’s office.

It is baffling. Only 54% with at least one dose compared to 76% of general population in Los Angeles. How can those charged with preserving public safety be allowed to get away with endangering public safety by working unvaccinated, often with very vulnerable populations? Fire them if they won't get vaccinated.

Probably because of what's in their contract.

You know I was thinking about our last pandemic - the HIV/ AIDS pandemic

I wondered how "society" would've react if we had mandate prohibiting gay sex and/ or use of needles?

Just wondering

I think most governing health organizations considered the AIDS crisis an epidemic and not a pandemic. Secondly, it was spread via particular behavioral actions (i.e., needles and unprotected sex) and initially in certain segments (i.e., gay population). So its very very very different than what we have today with Covid-19 which is HIGHLY contagious and spread via droplets in the air.

So your "wondering" is just that - wondering in wonderland.

Thousands of Los Angeles Police Department employees plan to seek exemptions to rules requiring city workers to get vaccinated against COVID-19, according to figures released Tuesday by city officials.

More than 2,600 LAPD employees have indicated that they plan to pursue religious exemptions, while more than 360 plan to seek medical ones.

That could amount to roughly a quarter of the LAPD’s workforce planning to seek an exemption, based on data in a memo sent by Wendy Macy, who heads the personnel department.

No way in heck do I believe that even 15% of LAPD employees are devout believers of any religion. For one thing, young men are notoriously not very interested in religion. Los Angeles might as well go BLM fantasy and deny most of those requests and have a smaller police force if those employees then don't get vaccinated and no longer work there. Way to purge bad apples.

I just LOVE IT when the Left gets heisted on their own petard. "My body, my self", "hostile work environment", "right to privacy", "between you and your doctor" are all shibboleths of the Left the last 40 years, but apparently ONLY when it is for things they approve of.

I think Covid vaccines are great and everyone should get one who can, but no one should be forced. That far exceeds governments power.

Many of the laws we have now on medical privacy were passed directly because of HIV/AIDS. Can you imagine the howling if a restaurant had a policy to have patrons show a negative HIV test before they could dine there?

Given that the transmission of COVID-19 and that of HIV are entirely different, that's a poor comparison.
